What the calculator looks like

When you first open the calculator you’ll see three summary cards at the top, a progress bar, and a table of pre-filled sample courses below. Here’s an overview of the full interface:

1 Add your courses

Click the + Add Course button to add a new row to the table. You can add as many courses as you like — one row per class. The calculator starts with three sample rows so you can see how it works right away.

In the Course Name field, type the name of your class — for example, “Intro to Psychology” or “CHEM 201”. This field is optional and is just for your own reference; it doesn’t affect the calculation.

2 Enter the number of credits

The Credits field is where you enter how many credit hours the course is worth. Most lecture courses are 3 credits; labs are often 1–2 credits; some upper-level or intensive courses may be 4 credits. Check your syllabus or course catalogue if you’re unsure.

Tip: Credits can be decimals like 1.5. Use the up/down arrows in the credits field or type the number directly.

Here’s what each number means:

Current GPA — your weighted grade point average across all entered courses. Displayed in green when at or above 3.5, and in amber or red for lower GPAs.

Total Credits — the sum of all credit hours you entered. This helps you verify you’ve entered all your courses correctly.

Quality Points — credits × grade points for each course, all added together. Divide this number by Total Credits and you get your GPA. The calculator does this math for you.

5 Understand your academic standing

Below the progress bar you’ll see a colored badge showing your academic standing based on your GPA:

Note: The exact GPA thresholds for Latin honors vary by institution. The thresholds shown here are common benchmarks — always check your college’s official policy.
6 Remove courses or start over

Made a mistake? Hit the small button on the right side of any row to delete that course. To wipe the whole list and start fresh, click the Clear All button below the table.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator save my data?
No data is saved. Everything is calculated locally in your browser and disappears when you close or refresh the page. This also means your grades stay completely private.
Can I use this to calculate my cumulative GPA?
Yes! Just enter all of your courses across every semester — not only the current one. As long as you enter the correct credit hours and grades, the calculator will give you your cumulative GPA.
My school uses a different grading scale. Will this work?
The calculator uses the standard U.S. 4.0 scale. If your school uses a different scale (e.g., a 4.3 scale where A+ = 4.3), the result will not match your official GPA. Check with your registrar for school-specific calculations.
What about pass/fail or incomplete grades?
Pass/fail courses typically don’t count toward GPA. Simply leave those courses out of the calculator. Incomplete grades (I) should also be omitted until a final letter grade is assigned.
How is GPA actually calculated?
GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credits. Quality points for each course = Credit Hours × Grade Points. For example, a 3-credit B+ (3.3) gives 9.9 quality points. Add up all quality points, divide by total credits, and you have your GPA.
